It is easy to hate on American Idol. Without a lot of yapping, here are 3 reasons from this year I love American Idol.
I have to admit, I really enjoy American Idol. My wife and I watch it regularly. It is also the only “reality show” we watch (except Dancing With The Stars which my wife loves but since Julianne Hough got booted who gives a shit).
I wanted to give a few thoughts on this season. This is easily the most talented group ever. To be even more specific, this is the first time ever, a guy should be guaranteed a win. I am not being misogynistic. I think Carrie and Kelly are easily the best two outta three of all of the top 12’s to date. Yes, Daughtry ruined their sweep of the top two spots.
Now, I gotta tell you I am stunned stupid. Michael Johns was booted? I don’t know how that happened, but it is insane. It will be better for Michael in the end though. This is just like Chris Daughtry getting booted. We all knew it was complete bullshit, but it worked out for the best for him.
I hope that is what happens with Michael Johns. I hope he makes some very good decisions right now and if he does, we will be hearing him again.
Now, the part of this post that is hard to write. I think the least talented person left is Jason Castro.
But, before you boo me off the blog stage, left me say this. Jason Castro is easily my favorite. He has picked and sang two songs I love and he has done them great justice. I mean, he picked two songs and their arrangements from my top 10 greatest of all time. He doesn’t have the versatility a lot of singers have, but that boy is a fucking genius. He is a one trick pony, but I’ll be damned if he doesn’t own that damn pony and simply sit back and dare you to come on his farm and even look at his pony.
Jason first brought tears to my eyes when he sang Jeff Buckley’s version of “hallelujah”. I love that song. I love hearing Jeff Buckley sing it. I put that song on repeat so often my neighbors think I am religious. After that, he fumbled around. He sang some shit, but didn’t find his song. Then he found the next song in my top 10.
He sang Israel Kamakawiwo’oles version of Over The Rainbow.
I am about to be a dad for the first time. I am 35 and my beautiful wife is 10 weeks pregnant. I pray our child is as beautiful as the sound of Iz singing Over The Rainbow. Jason Castro picked an amazing song, and even better arrangement (Iz’s arrangement) of the song, and he sounded wonderful doing it.
